Barley groats, or pot barley, are polished particles of barley kernel. While preparing barley cereals, polishing and grinding of grains are not applied at all, therefore it is distinguished by a high content of fiber. Barley seeds are to be selected, then cleaned of films and crushed. In the old times, guests were welcomed to taste porridge at important events.
There is a belief: when a child goes to school for the first time, parents bring with them a pot with porridge. Classmates eat it. Hence the name: "classmates"
